Torchlight Launches Caregiver Learning Community With Online/Offline Event Series

Inaugural webinar on May 24 will focus on the US Supreme Court’s recent
decision on how schools must accommodate children with special needs

BOSTON, MA – April 26, 2017 – Torchlight, creator of the first technology platform to support modern caregivers, today announced the launch of a learning community for employers and employees who are also caregivers of children with special needs and elderly loved ones. Dubbed TLC (for “Torchlight Learning Community”), the new initiative will formally kick off with a webinar on May 24 on the impact of the US Supreme Court’s recent and unanimous decision in Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District, which clarified and re-emphasized the level of services that schools must make available to children with special needs. Torchlight also announced a “Back-to-School” program to provide its platform to more employers nationwide.

“The court’s decision in Endrew was not only unanimous but emphatic,” said Adam Goldberg, Torchlight founder and CEO. “Schools must offer services that are ‘reasonably calculated to enable a child to make progress appropriate in light of the child’s circumstances’. Unfortunately, many parents are not yet aware of what they and their children are entitled to by law. With TLC, we’re hoping to bridge the knowledge gap through special educational programs, and make it easier for employers to assist their employees who are caregivers of children with special needs.”

In an informal panel-discussion format, the webinar will feature leaders in the legal, corporate, and caregiving world. Future webinars will look at topics of interest and concern to employers and employees including caregiving cost management, the new ecosystem of modern caregiving, and the continuum of insurance options for older employees. In the fall, TLC will begin bringing these and other conversations to live venues.

“The idea is to find additional opportunities to inform and educate more and more caregivers while we facilitate supporting, sharing and learning from one another,” said Carolyn Romano, Torchlight head of product and content. “There’s a growing need for practical advice and resources, and TLC is committed to meeting that need.”

“Back-to-School” Program
Torchlight also announced a special program for employers who sign up to use Torchlight and join TLC by June 30, 2017 — in advance of the school year — to receive promotional pricing for the Torchlight platform. Under the company’s “Back-to-School” program, employers will be able to provide both Torchlight Child and Torchlight Elder — the two services in the platform — for the cost of one service. The pricing will be honored for the entire lifetime of the agreement.
