DevOps Engineer (U.S.)

Torchlight is looking to hire a full-time DevOps Engineer who is interested in playing a key role in driving improvements to our Software-as-a-Service caregiving products and contributing to the impact of Torchlight on a national scale. This position reports to the Director of Engineering

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work collaboratively with the product and engineering teams and other internal and external stakeholders to understand high-level requirements and find creative solutions to challenging business and technical problems
  • Design and implement infrastructure improvements to meet increasing compliance and scalability requirements of the business
  • Work with the product and engineering teams to provide ongoing support for Torchlight’s applications, including our production and staging environments
  • Challenge existing architectural/code quality and advocate for improvements and innovation
  • Establish and evolve DevOps best practices, standards, and processes
  • Keep up-to-date with technical trends and evaluate/recommend the adoption of new technologies, processes and tools
  • Support all aspects of the Torchlight Information Security Policy and associated procedures, including SOC2 Type 2 and HIPAA requirements

The ideal candidate:

  • has 3+ years of relevant experience managing cloud infrastructure for a Software as a Service company (SaaS) running on AWS
  • has hands-on experience with common AWS services (e.g. EC2, S3, VPC, RDS, Lambda, Elastic Search, Kibana)
  • understands how to scale and monitor SaaS products in an AWS environment
  • has implemented and maintained disaster recovery solutions in AWS
  • has experience with or willingness to learn and use Hashicorp Terraform (Infrastructure as Code) scripts to manage AWS cloud components
  • has strong Linux and AWS sysadmin skills
  • is able to maintain logical and physical network diagrams for our AWS environments
  • is comfortable working in a regulated industry and meeting information security compliance requirements (Soc 2 Type 2 and HIPAA)
  • has excellent oral, written, and presentation communication skills


  • Hands-on experience supporting a modern data warehouse, such as Snowflake
  • Understanding of search and analytics solutions such as AWS Elasticsearch, NLP tools such as AWS Comprehend, and ML platforms such as AWS SageMaker
  • Experience with Docker-based solutions
  • Any of these certifications:
  • AWS SysOps Administrator
  • AWS DevOps Engineer
  • AWS Security Speciality
  • AWS Advanced Networking
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
